Frequently Asked Questions
Will my score be recorded be a real live orchestra?
Well of course not! That would cost tens of thousands of dollars! That's why we exist! Anyway... What we do is use the most amazingly realistic and articulate sample sets on the planet, combined with decades of composition, arranging and recording experience to give you a sound that is so utterly indistinguishable from a "real live orchestra" you won't believe it's not butter. Thus, we are able to record your score at a 50th of the cost of a physical orchestra. Plus, you won't have to deal with 150-piece ego. If you're not convinced, please by all means let your ears do the judging.
How long will it take to complete the recording?
That depends on a lot of factors: How complete and correct your score is, whether you submit it as a hand-written score or as a data file, and how long and complex it is. A complex hand written score with all kinds of advanced performance techniques will take a lot longer than a simple classical-style score submitted as a Finale file. How's that for dodging the question? :) Seriously, we try to get most pieces done within a few weeks to a month. More complex pieces can take a month or two.
Is it expensive?
Well, since you ask, no. But we will say this: the closer your submission is to a full orchestration, the lower the cost. For example, a 3 1/2 minute piano piece that you want orchestrated and recorded would cost approximately $525, depending on the size of the orchestra, whereas a full-score, even hand-written, that just needs to be performed could be as low as $400.
Do I need to know how to write orchestral music to get an orchestral recording of my piece.
Nope! You send us anything, and we mean anything, and we'll transform it into a full orchestra. Your submission can be anything from a handwritten piano score to a rough orchestral sketch full of notes in the margins, or even just a simple set of chord progressions with a melody scratched in above it.
Do I get a printed copy of my piece when you're done orchestrating/recording it?
Yes, that is an option. Since we'll be creating a working copy of your orchestration in Sibelius to perform from anyway, getting a printed copy is a fairly simple process. You can request actual prints or PDF files for printing yourself.
What if I have a polished score in Finale or Sibelius and just need a professional recording?
No problem. Upload it using the submission form and we'll get right to work.
Who owns the rights to the final recording?
You do! We are merely providing the service of orchestration and recording. All your rights remain with you.
Does MyOwnOrchestra.net do copyist/music preperation work?
What, no orchestral recording? Well, yes, as you ask, we do. Just send an email detailing your needs.
